MUNCIE -- Each of the 23-ton wind turbine gearboxes that Brevini Wind will build locally beginning in 2011 has about 1,100 parts. The company is planning to make 1,000 gearboxes a year at its plant in western Delaware County. Each of the 1,100 parts for each of those gearboxes must be made by someone.
Those numbers added up for more than 500 companies from around the state who showed up at Thursday's dual supplier conferences for Brevini Wind and VAT-Group. Brevini Wind will make gearboxes for wind turbines while VAT will not only service Brevini's equipment but build its own wind-and-solar powered streetlights and vertical wind vanes in the business park at Ind. 332 and Interstate 69.
