Indiana Senate GOP plan for budget insulates schools

INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana schools and other state programs would get a "reprieve" from cuts under a spending plan proposed Wednesday by Senate Republicans.

The proposal relies on $2 billion in temporary federal stimulus money to balance the state budget.

The plan allows new spending in numerous areas of the state budget at a time when tax collections have plummeted.
