A city board this week will consider tax abatements worth about $47,000 over six years for Indianapolis-based IT consultant Apparatus Inc., which is moving its headquarters to the former WFYI building at 1401 N. Meridian St.
The company, which now has its office at 912 N. Delaware St., plans to add 130 jobs at an average wage of $38 per hour, according to its application for tax incentives. That works out to an average annual salary of $79,000. The company already employs 73 at an average wage of $36 per hour.
The Metropolitan Development Commission staff has recommended approval of the abatements in connection with the headquarters move and job creation. A public hearing on the matter is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. separately offered the company up to $1.3 million in performance-based tax credits and up to $100,000 in training grants for creating jobs.
Apparatus plans to spend $800,000 to renovate the vacant building and about $400,000 on new equipment.
Apparatus handles information technology infrastructure outsourcing and consulting for clients ranging from government entities to corporations such as Eli Lilly and Co. and Simon Property Group Inc.
It executed a purchase agreement for the 27,000-square-foot WFYI building in August. The building had been vacant since the public television network moved a few blocks north to 16th and Meridian streets about two years ago. A second WFYI building, at 1433 N. Meridian St., remains available for purchase.
