St. Joseph County could save more than $100,000 per election by replacing precinct polling places with vote centers, according to a study conducted by the Indiana Fiscal Policy Institute.

The Indiana General Assembly in 2006 enacted legislation establishing vote centers in three pilot counties — Tippecanoe, Cass and Wayne — and the study makes use of reports from those counties as well as other election data to identify potential cost savings across the state.
