Just 5 names on Monroe County Community School Corp. layoff list this year

MCCSC’s list of teachers on its reduction-in-force layoff list is much shorter than last year’s, when the school corporation was in the midst of slashing staff to make up for drastic budget shortfalls.

Last year, about 130 teachers were initially notified they’d lose their jobs. That list was eventually whittled down to 72 teachers through an early retirement package and other changes, according to Monroe County Community School Corp. assistant superintendent for human resources Peggy Chambers.
