WASHINGTON — Four out of five furloughed Washington teachers will have a job when school starts Monday.

The Washington School Board voted Thursday to give one-year contracts to teachers Quintin Myers, Lacey Higgins, Jennifer Skomp and Alicia Clarke. The four, along with junior high band teacher Jeff VanderMel, were not given contracts earlier this summer due to budget cuts.

Superintendent Dr. Bruce Hatton told the board that after student enrollment numbers came in, there was a need for the four.

As many as nine teachers waited for word if they would work for Washington this fall. Four were given contracts due to federal funding while the other five waited for registration numbers.
