When the housing market took a downward turn in 2007 and 2008, Quinn Thurin, managing broker at Cressy & Everett in South Bend, didn't consider leaving the real estate business.
But many others did.
"Some people who were in it short and long term found it to be a challenge and choose to do something different," he said. At the same time, not many people were entering the business.
Currently, there is a lot of data-crunching going on to determine if the housing market is indeed on the rebound here and across the country.
While measurements like median price, closed transactions and new listings demonstrate some degree of confidence in the economy and the local market, it seems that there is renewed interest in real estate as a career as well.
There is a direct correlation between membership in the Indiana Association of Realtors' and the activity of the housing market, said Karl Berron, CEO of the association. But it lags the market by about six months.
