New data show movement in the Monroe County housing market in the fourth quarter of 2013 mirrored changes for the entire year — closed sales rose, new listings fell and sale prices declined by a few thousand dollars.
Closed home sales in the county increased 6.7 percent in the three-month period that includes October, November and December, according to an update provided Tuesday by the Bloomington Board of Realtors. Realtors closed 320 sales during that time in 2013, up from 300 in the same period in 2012.
New listings declined 7.6 percent year-over-year. A total of 412 new listings appeared in the fourth quarter of 2013, down from 446 the year before.
That shrinking inventory didn’t translate into higher sale prices, though. The median sale price in 2013’s fourth quarter was $146,500, down 2.5 percent from $150,250 in the same quarter in 2012.
