EDITORIAL: A strong case for shrinking government

Taxpayers are unnecessarily paying for loans so local governments and schools can operate because tax collection here is long overdue.

While the constituents pony up extra money for interest on loans, we hear public officials explaining why property tax bills are late -- again -- and now the collection date is expected to be Dec. 1.

If there ever was an illustration for restructuring county government along the recommendations of the Kernan-Shepard commission, here it is.
