It's difficult to keep track of the accusations, plans, scare tactics and agendas of those involved in the efforts to come to terms with the Muncie's multimillion dollar deficit and looming bankruptcy. It's confusing for everyone, especially for residents, who aren't actively involved in Muncie's arcane politics.
Worse, the situation is escalating instead of heading towards a consensus solution that involves objective reasoning and hard facts. This is especially troubling given that the public safety of Muncie citizens is involved.
The community deserves real answers to questions involving the fire department that can only be provided by a disinterested third party or mediator:
What is the national or state average number of firefighters per capita for a community the size of Muncie?
What is optimal?
