Stimulus jobs to help offset Fort Wayne Community Schools layoffs

Pink slips will be sent to 108 Fort Wayne Community Schools teachers today, but the district is also creating 95 jobs from the money it will receive as part of the federal stimulus package.

The federal stimulus money must be used to support Title I, a federal program that supports low-income students, and special education. The 108 teachers who are being laid off will have the opportunity to apply for the jobs but must be certified in those areas and have the credentials to do the job.
