Higher education officials in Indiana are assessing the practical impact of a $150 million reduction in state funding - 6 percent overall - directed late Tuesday afternoon by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and Gov. Mitch Daniels.

The state's seven state-assisted institutions received different budget cuts based on numerous factors evaluated by the commission over the last month.

In general, the Indiana University system will see a 5.8 percent reduction in state funding over the past 18 months of the current two-year budget, or biennium. The Ivy Tech system will face a 3.49 percent decrease over the same period.
