Due to an increase in COVID-19-related hospitalizations, Schneck Medical Center must begin carefully prioritizing surgeries and procedures.
Prioritization will be based on a variety of factors, including the patient’s medical condition and risk for disease progression as well as availability of the organization’s capacity level and vital resources, such as critical equipment and supplies, available staff and beds.
“The health and safety of our patients and our communities is our primary concern, and we are making decisions as warranted following guidance from the Indiana State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We will reschedule surgeries or procedures as soon as our capacity levels allow us to do so,” said Dr. Eric Fish, president and chief executive officer of the Seymour hospital.
“We remind everyone that Schneck Medical Center and the Schneck emergency department are open and available to provide you with safe emergency and essential care, our physician practices are open for in-person primary and specialty care and we offer telemedicine visits for many types of care,” he said.
Patients scheduled for surgeries or procedures will be contacted by their physician practice if their surgery or procedure date must be delayed.
