MUNCIE — IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital on Thursday evening reported "an all-time high of COVID-19 positive inpatients."
A release from the hospital stated, "IU Health Ball is experiencing high volumes of sick patients in need of inpatient hospital care," including a surge of COVID-19 cases.
Noting that the emergency department is "extremely busy in this current state," IU Health BMH urged people to consider carefully whether to go to their doctor's office rather than the hospital emergency department depending on the severity of symptoms or injury.
"If you or a loved one feel you are showing symptoms consistent with COVID-19, please call ahead to your doctor, a nearby hospital or health department, or use IU Health’s free virtual screening clinic so medical providers can be prepared to receive you and avoid exposure themselves," the release stated.
Symptoms of COVID-19 can include fever, chills, cough, difficulty breathing, fatigue, aches and loss of taste or smell, among others. Information about local testing sites is available at the Delaware County Indiana Coronavirus hub.
