Delaware County reorganization plan recommends getting rid of mayor, county commissioners

MUNCIE -- In a community known for the intensely political nature of its government, will officials embrace a report recommending we do away with the offices of mayor and county commissioner in favor of a more streamlined, professional system?

The final report of the local government reorganization committee is being presented to officials this week. Members of the group say they're "optimistic" that the same officials who would lose their positions of power if the plan were implemented -- including Muncie City Council -- will embrace the change.
