EDITORIAL: Plain economics might force Muncie-Delaware County consolidation

If Muncie and Delaware County governments refuse to join forces willingly, they may be forced to join out of necessity.

Mayor Sharon McShurley was right when she told The Star Press last week that property-tax caps "will force consolidation" of local government.

Fortunately, a blueprint for consolidation is on the table. Members of the Muncie-Delaware County Government Reorganization Committee completed their work on a plan that eliminates many city and county offices in favor of a county executive and a 15-member consolidated council.
