NEW PALESTINE — In a time when good news is a rarity within school corporations around Indiana, Southern Hancock administrators have some excellent tidings to pass along to several teachers.

With the retirement of two more teachers and two others leaving for other school districts, several educators who initially lost their jobs with Southern Hancock during recent layoffs have been recalled.

“We’ve got a lot of thrilled people here,” SH Superindendent Jim Halik said.

The callbacks were expected to became official during a meeting of the school board Monday night.

In all, 10 educators have either been offered full time or part time positions.
After initially eliminating 18 full-time positions while trimming the general budget, Halik said it was encouraging to to be able to make a few reversals.
