SOUTH BEND -- Researchers at Goshen College kept hearing from Latino parents who worry about their kids' futures and keep pushing their kids to earn good grades.
How, the researchers wondered, could they reconcile that with the lament of school officials -- that Latino parents don't get involved in school activities?
The answers are part of a three-volume study the researchers released in March, titled "Latinos in North Central Indiana," that focuses on Latino demographics, settlement and education.
The education volume focuses on interviews with students, parents and educators in St. Joseph, Elkhart and Noble counties. The University of Notre Dame's Institute for Latino Studies assisted with the study.
