It took Mike McAfee about 15 minutes longer than usual to drive from the northwest side to the southeast side of town Friday afternoon, but he didn't mind a bit.
McAfee, executive director of the Bloomington/Monroe County Convention and Visitors Bureau, was gratified to have plenty of folks in town for Indiana University's commencement weekend.
"There were actually just a few motel rooms left available," he said, "but, basically, this is a sold-out weekend for us."
McAfee wishes state and local government would invest a bit more money to make such weekends more frequent. He cites a recent Ball State study showing that every $1 spent on tourism by Indiana generates a minimum return of $15.
