After a third decline in as many months, Dubois County posted its lowest unemployment rate of the year in August.
The county’s rate went from 6.9 percent in July to 6.7 percent last month, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. Rates in six of Dubois County’s eight neighboring counties either declined or remained unchanged.
Dubois County’s rate was the second best in the state in August, topped only by a 6.2 percent posting by Daviess County. Fayette County had the highest rate, 13.5 percent.
Indiana’s overall seasonally adjusted rate remained at 10.2 percent in August. At the same time, the nation’s rate increased by one-tenth of a percentage point, to 9.6 percent.
The Hoosier State added 3,000 private sector jobs during August. During this year, private sector employment has grown by 54,700 jobs, according to Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
Dubois County’s labor force consisted of 22,454 people in August, 20,951 of whom were employed. That left 1,503 classified as unemployed. Those numbers do not reflect those county residents whose unemployment benefits have been exhausted.
Dubois County’s rate during August 2009 was 6.8 percent, or one-tenth of a percentage point higher than the corresponding month this year.
