Highest unemployment rates in Indiana for August 2010

Elkhart County's unemployment rate fell in August and maintained the second-highest rate in the state for the third straight month.
Unemployment in Elkhart County fell 0.5 percent last month, from 13.9 to 13.4 percent. Fayette County, which has led the state in unemployment since June, also saw a 0.5 percent dip, falling from 14 to 13.5 percent unemployment, according to figures released today by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
The city of Elkhart's unemployment rate also fell slightly in August, from 15.5 to 15.3 percent, while Goshen's rate rose from 13.3 to 13.7 percent. Those numbers are improvements over August 2009 figures, when Elkhart and Goshen posted 19.8 and 15.7 percent unemployment rates respectively. East Chicago City still leads the state with 16 percent unemployment.
The state's unemployment rate fell from 10.1 to 9.9 percent last month, while the U.S. rate fell from 9.7 to 9.5 percent.
