CULVER - Many tears were shed Monday night after the Culver Community Schools board of trustees voted 5-2 to discontinue operations at Monterey Elementary School and for students normally assigned there to become part of Culver Elementary School.
“It’s now time for four townships to unite to make one excellent school system and work collaboratively to improve,” said Superintendent Brad Schuldt after the vote.
Schuldt received applause after one announcement: There will be no reduction in certified staff as a result of the closing. But by then, many of more than 100 patrons had left.
