Twelve of the 26 Madison teachers who received reduction-in-force letters are likely to have their jobs saved if the school district spends a federal Education Jobs stimulus grant for their salaries.
Superintendent Tom Patterson told the school board Wednesday night that he expects to recall the dozen RIF'd teachers before May 25. The Madison Consolidated Schools received a $660,000 stimulus grant for jobs.
The school board will make decisions on cost-cutting at a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 25 at the school administration building, 2421 Wilson Ave.
Board President Andy Lytle said the grant is only a one-time thing and not continuing funding.
He said decisions on the teachers who remain on the reduction-in-force list will be made during the late summer.
